Job Details

SUMMARY
The employee coordinates and conducts experiments and carries out research projects in basic
science areas. Constructs, assembles and operates laboratory apparatus and equipment. Reads literature and
confers with superiors regarding new procedures and modifies them according to the needs of the
project. Records and evaluates data obtained in accordance with methods requested.

KEY FUNCTIONS

Animal Work
Perform animal studies including injections (intraperitoneal, intravenous), oral gavage, small
surgery, collection of tissues on necropsy. Maintain colonies of animals as needed for experiments.
Experience with genetically engineered mice is preferred.

General Lab Maintenance
Assume responsibility for general laboratory maintenance.
Maintain procedures and protocols that ensure the quality and integrity of procedures performed.
Maintain supplies, equipment maintenance and preparation of stock solutions.
Maintain an excellent working knowledge of all basic laboratory equipment and apparatus.

Laboratory Work
Assist in cell culture experiments (maintain mammalian and murine cell lines).
Conduct tissue based experiments including immunohistochemistry analysis, microscopy analysis, IHC.
Conduct flow cytometry analysis.
Perform RNA extraction and sample preparation for NGS (genomic analysis). Communicate results or
any potential problems to the primary investigator.

Collaboration
Work closely with fellows and trainees in the laboratory.
Read scientific literature to keep current with new research techniques and learn or develop new
techniques by communicating with other researchers and biotechnology companies.

Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

Required Education:
Bachelor's degree, major course work in one of the basic sciences.
Preferred Education:
Masters' degree with major course work in one of the basic sciences.

EXPERIENCE

Required Experience:
Two years of experience in scientific or experimental research work.

Preferred Experience/Skills:
Bio-specimen processing and animal handling, carry out experiments and research according to protocols laid out by primary researchers, collect and log experimental data and conduct analysis of data sets. Possess strong analytical, technical and communicative abilities. Demonstrate a passion for both general research and cancer research area of concentration. A highly motivated individual and understand the importance of concentrating on even the most repetitive research task. For scientific research, prior experience working in a laboratory.
