A postdoctoral research position is available in the Human Brain Research Laboratory (HBRL) in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Iowa. Our research utilizes human patient volunteers undergoing neurosurgical treatment (Deep Brain Stimulation) to investigate the control of speech and interactions between motor and sensory systems related to speech. We use a collaborative team of investigators and a combination of behavioral and electrophysiology measures of cortical and subcortical function obtained from implanted surface, depth, and microelectrode recording montages collected both in and out of the operating room. In addition, we utilize functional imaging studies (fMRI) in the same subjects.
The postdoctoral researcher will be part of an interdisciplinary team of neurosurgeons, neurologists, speech-language pathologists, and movement disorder experts in a clinical setting studying outcomes in a variety of populations, including Parkinson’s disease and essential tremor. Professional development and collaborative opportunities are ample both in and out of the lab.
The position will be primarily responsible for analysis of microelectrode recordings, EEG, and limb movement data for a 5-year study investigating speech changes and the role of the subthalamic nucleus (STN) in people with Parkinson’s disease who are undergoing Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), as well as control patients with PD who do not undergo surgery.
Applicants should submit a C.V., a letter of interest describing research interests and career goals, and contact information for three professional references to Dr. Jeremy Greenlee at jeremy-greenlee@uiowa.edu.
