Postdoctoral fellow positions available immediately
The laboratories of Drs Rexford Ahima and Sangwon Kim in the Division of Endocrinology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine seek a talented and highly motivated post-doctoral researchers with a background in metabolism, diabetes, neuroscience or cardiology.
First position: This position will be sponsored by American Heart Association (AHA), Cardiometabolic Health Strategically Funded Research Network (SFRN) grant for 1 year and can be extended upon successful completion. Johns Hopkins is one of the centers selected as AHA SRFN for Cardiometabolic Health. Under AHA SFRN, Johns Hopkins team will investigate the effects of adipokines on obesity and cardiovascular health exploring all aspects of basic, clinical and population science. Drs Ahima and Kim laboratories will lead a basic science project using cellular and animal models. As an AHA fellow in SFRN, s/he is expected to attend a monthly center meeting and to present a poster at annual AHA meeting.
Second position: This fellow will lead one of the projects focusing on circadian biology in the hypothalamus and effects of time restricted feeding on energy homeostasis and glucose and lipid metabolism. We utilize state-of-the art techniques for whole body metabolism analysis, including 1H-MRS body composition analysis, monitoring of feeding, energy expenditure and fuel oxidation. The candidate with a neuroscience background is preferred but not required.
- A recent graduate with a PhD in biochemistry, cell biology, physiology or a related field
- A strong publication record
- Ability to design and conduct experiments independently
- Ability to work with others as a team
- Ability to write manuscripts and fellowship applications, and present their research at national meetings
- Excellent command of the English language
