Assistant Professor of Biochemistry – University of Washington

The Department of Biochemistry at the University of Washington seeks applicants for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position. Assistant Professors in the Department of Biochemistry have an annual service period of 12 months [July 1 - June 30].  The anticipated start date for this position is July 1, 2022.  Research in the Biochemistry department spans a wide range of interests from protein structure and design to embryonic regeneration, with a common focus on answering important biological questions at a molecular level. This position will be expected to use creative methods to solve fundamental biological problems.

The department is highly collaborative and interactive, with a keen interest in promoting the careers of junior faculty. The department believes in the value of a diverse community, and encourages applications from individuals with varied experiences, perspectives and backgrounds. This position will be expected to contribute to building and mentoring a diverse scientific community.  All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.

The UW is one of the top research institutions in the US. We collaborate and jointly mentor students with faculty at the other outstanding research institutions in the Seattle area such as the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center and Seattle Children’s Hospital. In addition to our Biochemistry PhD program, our faculty participate in various PhD programs throughout the UW, including the MCB, BPSD and Neuroscience programs. Additionally, we emphasize undergraduate education and mentorship through teaching undergraduate classes and hosting undergraduate research students. This position will be expected to contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching.

The University of Washington campus sits north of the downtown area of Seattle on beautiful Portage Bay. The Biochemistry department is located in the School of Medicine, which is part of the main campus, providing a rich mixture of students and faculty from different UW schools.

Qualifications

Qualified applicants will have a Ph.D. or foreign equivalent in life or physical sciences or a related field, with a demonstrated record of outstanding research, and experience teaching or mentoring at the graduate or undergraduate levels.
