Job Details
The Pilaz lab at Sanford Research has an opening position for a postdoctoral fellow or a staff scientist to work on projects related to embryonic development of the cerebral cortex.
The Pilaz lab focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying neurodevelopmental diseases such as autism, microcephaly and other forms of intellectual disabilities. Within the lab, the candidate would use the mouse model to investigate key aspects of neuron and neural stem cell behaviors. Current projects in the lab are related to: regulation of chromatin accessibility, RNA trafficking and local protein synthesis. Responsibilities include generation of omics analyses, in utero electroporation, histology, and time-lapse imaging of RNA metabolism in live tissue.
Qualifications: Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent, should have excellent communication skills (both oral and written), be highly organized, and work well in a team. The candidate must be able to perform independent scientific research including the design and development of research objectives for experimentation; analyze and evaluate findings; assist in the completion of grant applications and regulatory documents; write technical summaries and co-author articles for publication; prepare and make formal presentations of research results; and be able to work under broad direction of principal investigator.
Individuals with expertise in neural stem cell, neuron, chromatin or RNA biology are encouraged to apply. Ideal skills are: surgery on small animals, molecular biology, bioinformatics and advanced microscopy.
