Introduction to Capital Medical University

Founded in 1960, Capital Medical University (CMU) is a key institution of higher education under the joint leadership of Beijing Municipal Government, National Health Commission and Ministry of Education (MOE). The current Secretary of Party Committee is Research Fellow Hu Wenliang, and the President is the renowned molecular neurobiologist Professor Rao Yi.

The Main Campus consists of 11 academic schools, 1 research center and 1 affiliated health school, 21 schools of clinical medicine (among which 19 are affiliated hospitals), 39 clinical specialty schools and departments, and 35 clinical diagnosis, treatment and research centers. At present, the faculty of the University and staff of affiliated hospitals number 40,678. Among them, 6 are national academicians; 64 leading talents and winners of The National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and 163 top talents and winners of The National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars; 2,678 have senior academic titles and 4,353 have associate senior academic titles; 795 are doctoral supervisors, and 1,172 are master supervisors.

CMU has 8 state key disciplines, 2 state key (state-supported) disciplines, 60 state key clinical specialties (including traditional Chinese medicine), 14 key (state-supported) disciplines from State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 4 Beijing Level I key disciplines, 6 Beijing Level II key disciplines, 1 Beijing key inter-discipline, and 1 Beijing higher education discipline group. Nine disciplines, including clinical medicine, have entered the ESI global disciplines ranking top 1%, and clinical medicine top 1‰. Neuroscience & Behavior, Pharmacology & Toxicology, Immunology, Biology & Biochemistry, Molecular Biology & Genetics top 5‰.

The University has three national medical centers, six national clinical medicine research centers, two collaborative innovation centers jointly funded by Beijing municipal government and the MOE; one state key laboratory (under cultivation) jointly funded by Beijing municipal government and the Ministry of Science and Technology, five MOE key laboratories, and three Beijing laboratories, 54 Beijing municipal key laboratories; one laboratory of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology; one national engineering laboratory, one national engineering technology research center, four MOE engineering research centers, and ten Beijing engineering technology research centers.

Over the past five years, CMU has taken on 2,996 scientific research projects including projects funded by national major R&D programs, special-funded national major science and technology programs, National Natural Science Foundation, National Social Science Foundation, Beijing Natural Science Foundation, Beijing Municipal Science & Technology Commission, and Beijing Municipal Natural Science Foundation (among which 1,705 are state-level scientific research projects). The total investment on scientific research has reached 2.754 billion CNY (of which 2.146 billion CNY is from state-level projects). CMU has received 1,622 patents and 111 awards of all types and levels.

Application Requirements

Eligible applicants should meet the following requirements:

1. Have passion for the cause of higher education in China, abide by Chinese laws and regulations, and observe professional ethics and academic norms;
2. Promising scholars who have obtained or are about to obtain a doctoral degree and who have studied or worked overseas for at least three years with impressive academic achievements; or excellent scholars who have obtained a doctoral degree in China with outstanding academic achievements and great potential.

Basic Medical Sciences, Clinical Medicine, Stomatology, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Traditional Chinese Pharmacology, Nursing, Biomedical Engineering, and Biology.

Support Policy

(1) The Main Campus

Talents recruited by the University

Research start-up funding: No less than 5 million CNY for promising talents and no less than 8 million CNY for other talents;

Annual salary before tax: 400,000CNY-600,000CNY for promising talents. No less than 600,000CNYfor others;

Housing subsidy: 3 million CNY~5 million CNY.

Talents recruited by schools

Research start-up funding: 1.5 million CNY~ 3 million CNY for professors, 500,000 CNY for associate professors;

Salary: based on the salary standard of the corresponding position;

Housing subsidy: 1 million CNY for professors and 500,000 CNY for associate professors.

(2) Clinical Medical Schools

Each clinical medical school can refer to the above standard of the Main Campus in recruiting talents. The specific terms will be negotiated with each clinical medical school.
