The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) Research Institute seeks an outstanding scientist or clinician scientist committed to studying the molecular, genetic and/or cellular mechanisms underlying congenital malformations and disease. The successful applicant will fill a full-time Scientist position at SickKids within one of its seven fully integrated research programs, with academic cross-appointment as an Assistant or Associate Professor at the University of Toronto. The appointee will be located in our 21-storey state-of-the-art research facility in the Discovery District of downtown Toronto, offering a unique environment for medical science discoveries in close proximity toseven additional academic hospitals/research institutes as well as Canada’s largest university.

The successful candidate is expected to develop a research plan in the broad area of human disease modeling, with the intent of understanding cellular, molecular and genetic mechanisms underlying congenital malformations and disease states, and in developing therapeutic strategies. Research using the following will also be considered: patient cohorts and/or animal models; cell, stem cell and/or 3D organoid models; cell-based, small molecule and biologic therapeutic development. Applications that focus on musculoskeletal disorders/skeletal dysplasia are welcomed.

Candidates must have a PhD or MD*/PhD, significant postdoctoral experience and a proven record of outstanding scientific accomplishments in aforementioned research areas. The successful candidate will initiate and maintain an original, competitive, and independently-funded research program of international calibre. Potential for collegial interaction will be an important element in attaining the position. The successful candidate will benefit from the interdepartmental molecular genetic and paediatric medicine initiatives at the University of Toronto as well as the extensive research and core facilities at SickKids, the University of Toronto, and its affiliated institutions for cell, tissue and whole animal imaging, genomics, proteomics and bioinformatics. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
