Junior/Mid-Career Scientific Investigators

Basic Sciences Department(s)

New York Medical College, School of Medicine

Valhalla, New York

The School of Medicine (SOM) and the Graduate School of Basic Medical Sciences (GSBMS) at New York Medical College (NYMC or College) invite applications for three (3) tenure track principal investigator positions at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. We welcome candidates with research interests and expertise in neuroscience, cancer biology, inflammation at the intersection of cardiovascular disease, endocrinology, and microbiome to align and complement our existing programs. Investigators’ home department would be assigned according to general disciplines of physiology, biochemistry, molecular biology and/or cell biology. Appointment at the Associate Professor rank will require a demonstrated record of accomplishment, including strong record of publications and evidence of sustained extramural funding.  A competitive salary and generous start-up package are available.

NYMC has a highly collaborative and collegial academic faculty with an important footprint in medical education and graduate training, close interactions with our clinical partner Westchester Medical Center - co-located on our Valhalla campus, NYMC’s transformative biotechnology incubator BioInc@NYMC - the only incubator of its kind in the region that is located on the NYMC campus, and other institutions within the Touro College and University System.

NYMC, a private institution founded in 1860, is part of the Touro College and University System and is located on a 55-acre campus in Valhalla NY, about 15 miles north of New York City. NYMC awards degrees in medicine (MD), dentistry (DDS), health professions (MPH, DPH, DPT, MS in Speech Language Pathology, MS in Biostatistics), graduate studies (MS, PhD), and nursing (BSN).  NYMC is an equal opportunity employer that seeks to create an environment which fosters the recruitment and retention of a diverse student body, faculty, staff and administration. We encourage applications from qualified women, minorities, veterans, individuals with a disability, and historically underrepresented groups in science and medicine. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to their race/ethnicity, color, genetic information, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, political affiliation, or veteran status. Individuals requesting accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA) should make their needs for accommodation known to the search committee administration.

Responsibilities

Opportunities to develop an interdisciplinary collaborative research program exist within basic science and clinical departments at the College.  The candidates’ primary responsibility will be to establish and maintain a high-quality extramurally funded research program. Faculty will be expected to contribute to the teaching/mentoring and service missions of their home department and the College. Excellent opportunities exist to mentor and train M.S./Ph.D./M.D. students and to participate in teaching or development of graduate courses within the applicant’s area of expertise.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a Ph.D., M.D., or M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree and a record of productive post-doctoral training.

Interested applicants should apply and include: cover letter indicating research interests, curriculum vita, and names of three professional references that will be contacted when appropriate, and with permission from the candidate.
