The Butler Lab at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (UTSW) is pleased to announce post-doctoral fellow position(s) to study the instatement of neural networks following gene therapy. This research will employ cutting-edge electrophysiological, optical and computational methods to measure networks in vitro and in vivo after application of novel viral vectors. Our research seeks to understand how neuron-to-neuron communication is altered in neurodevelopmental disease states and whether viral vector-induced expression of a corrected form of an inherent missing or defective gene corrects the electrophysiological defect. The Butler lab is a member of the Gene Therapy program, an initiative at UTSW establishing a highly collaborative group of research labs focused on discovering new genetic therapies and bringing the product to clinical trial. The post-doctoral fellow(s) will join the intellectually rich neuroscience, psychiatric and pediatric communities at UTSW, which brings together behaviorists, electrophysiologists, and computational neuroscientists, and includes numerous core facilities to enhance the technological capabilities of the projects. The Candidate

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with training in patch-clamp slice electrophysiology. Additional skills such as multiphoton imaging, in vivo electrophysiology optogenetics, calcium imaging or animal behavior are a bonus. Candidates with a desire to see the products of their work brought to clinical trial(s) are encouraged to apply.
