B CELL IMMUNOLOGY

Position Description:

A postdoctoral position is available in the Translational Immunobiology Unit, Laboratory of Infectious Diseases, NIH, to investigate B-cell affinity maturation pathways in individuals with severe viral infections and vaccine recipients. The mission of the newly established Translational Immunobiology Unit is threefold: to extend the basic understanding of B-cell selection, clonal expansion, and maturation into memory responses; to gather information from the natural evolution of B-cell responses to inform effective immunogen designs; and to identify prophylactic and therapeutic antibody-based countermeasures. Studies will encompass primarily human and nonhuman primate specimens (as well as murine models) and will use multiple virus models, including HIV, flaviviruses, influenza viruses, herpesviruses, and betacoronaviruses. The starting date for this position is negotiable.

Qualifications:

We are looking for a highly motivated scientist with a Ph.D. and/or M.D., an interest in immunobiology, and a strong background in cellular immunology, molecular biology, as well as some experience in virology. Proficiency in handling primary cells, mammalian cell culture techniques, and hands-on experience with common molecular techniques (e.g. ELISA, western blot, immunoprecipitation, PCR) are necessary. Familiarity with high-throughput automated platforms is preferred. The candidate should have a publication record in peer-reviewed journals. The candidate must have strong oral and written communication skills and be able to work well both independently as well as with others on a team. Candidates must have less than 4 years of postdoctoral experience.

To Apply:

Please send a cover letter describing your research experience, current interests and research, a curriculum vitae (CV) with bibliography, and the names and contacts for three references to Dr. Mattia Bonsignori, Chief, Translational Immunobiology Unit, Laboratory of Infectious Diseases, NIAID, NIH, Bethesda, Maryland, 20892 via email at mattia.bonsignori@nih.gov. In the subject line of the email, please include “TIB Postdoc application.”
