in combination with

Head of Institute of »AI for Drug Discovery« at Helmholtz Zentrum München

to start in summer semester 2022. The position is advertised with open rank as tenured W3 (Associate or Full) position. The professorship is combined with the position as head of an Institute at HMGU according to the Jülich model.

Scientific environment
The professorship will be assigned to the TUM Department of Chemistry and in future to the TUM School of Natural Sciences, with an option for association to the Department of Computer Sciences. Its future holder will be appointed professor under the terms of a private-law contract and will be granted leave of absence in order to lead the Institute of AI for Drug Discovery (AIDD) at HMGU based on an employment agreement under private law (“Jülicher-Modell”). The position is embedded in the Helmholtz Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Unit (Helmholtz AI, https://www.helmholtz.ai/) located at HMGU and in the ELLIS Munich environment.

Responsibilities
The responsibilities include research and teaching as well as the promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint an expert in the research area of artificial intelligence and deep learning methods with application to drug development and the discovery of novel chemical entities.
The new professorship in AIDD will advance machine learning methods and will interact with chemists, structural biologists, biomedical researchers, clinicians and industry to develop and apply these methods for drug discovery.

Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who have demonstrated excellent achievements in research and teaching in an internationally recognized scientific environment, relative to the relevant career level (please see www.tum.de/en/faculty-recruiting-faq/ for further information).
A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification as well as pedagogical aptitude, including the ability to teach in English, are prerequisites. Substantial research experience abroad is expected.
