TENURE-TRACK INVESTIGATOR POSITION

IN THE LABORATORY OF BIOCHEMISTRY AND GENETICS

NIDDK, NIH, Bethesda MD

The Laboratory of Biochemistry and Genetics (LBG) is recruiting a tenure track investigator with a demonstrated track record of research excellence in the life sciences. We are especially interested in individuals who use model organisms and novel approaches to study fundamental biological questions in areas such as cell and developmental biology, molecular structure and function, genome function and organization, and synthetic biology.

LBG is a highly interactive and stimulating research environment in the NIH Intramural Research Program, and is part of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). It is located on the main NIH campus, in Bethesda MD. Current research areas in LBG include the biology of prions and anti-prion systems, centrosome function, mechanisms underlying chaperone function, regulation of gene expression in bacteria and eukaryotes, translation, modeling disease in model organisms, and nuclear envelope dynamics. NIDDK supports a wide range of basic and clinical biomedical research, as well as several state-of-the-art core facilities. The NIH intramural research program includes over 1,100 Principal Investigators and offers many unique advantages, including stable funding, shared resources, the ability to do high-risk basic research, access to clinical collaborators, a wide range of basic science expertise, and the opportunity to train post-bacs, graduate students and post-docs, who are also supported by the Office of Intramural Training and Education.

Qualifications/eligibility: Applicants must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree and have an outstanding record of research accomplishments as evidenced by high quality publications in peer-reviewed journals. Individuals from under-represented groups are strongly encouraged to apply. Appointees may be U.S. citizens, resident aliens, or non-resident aliens with, or eligible to obtain, a valid employment-authorization visa.

To apply: Interested applicants should submit a single pdf file containing:

(a) Curriculum Vitae and list of publications (BioRxiv manuscripts are acceptable). Indices such as impact factors will not be considered and should not be included.

(b) A statement of research accomplishments (no longer than 1 page)

(c) A statement of future research directions (no longer than 3 pages)

(d) A statement of past, current and/or future efforts related to enhancement of diversity and inclusion in STEM-related areas, such as mentoring and outreach (no longer than 1 page)

(e) Names and contact information of three references.

The file should be emailed to NIDDK.LBG.TTI2021@niddk.nih.gov. Evaluation of applications will begin on October 15th 2021 and will continue until the position is filled. If you have specific questions, please contact ornac@niddk.nih.gov. Applicants who also wish to be considered for an NIH Stadtman Investigator position need to apply for that separately.

THE NIH IS DEDICATED TO BUILDING AN INCLUSIVE AND DIVERSE COMMUNITY IN ITS TRAINING AND EMPLOYMENT PROGRAMS.  HHS and NIH are equal opportunity employers.
