Assistant Professor in Behavioral Biology

The Davidson College Biology Department invites applications for a tenure-track position in integrative behavioral biology at the assistant professor level. We seek a biologist with demonstrated potential for excellence in undergraduate education who addresses behavioral questions from evolutionary, ecological, integrative, and/or physiological perspectives using modern and interdisciplinary approaches. Priority will be given to candidates with the potential to advance institutional goals in diversity, equity, justice, and inclusion. The position will begin on July 01, 2022.

Teaching responsibilities within the annual five-course teaching load (where courses with labs count as two courses) include a rotation of introductory biology (with lab), an advanced organismal-level course (with lab), biostatistics, and an additional course in the candidate's area of expertise; during the first year, the successful candidate will teach four courses. A Ph.D. in biology or related field is required with postdoctoral research and teaching experience (or equivalent) preferred. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an active research program capable of attracting external funding and producing peer-reviewed publications with undergraduate co-authors. Candidates using population genetics, genomics, comparative phylogenetics, modelling, computational, and/or field-based methods are particularly encouraged to apply. For full descriptions of the application materials, expectations, and the support structures we have in place for the growth, security, and well-being of our faculty members, see the full posting of the position, including the evaluation rubric.

Application materials must be submitted through https://employment.davidson.edu. Preference will be given to those who submit their materials by October 1st. Application materials will include: 1) a concise cover letter, 2) CV with names and contact information of references included, 3) candidate’s approach to and experience teaching (limited to two pages), 4) an overview of the proposed research program (limited to three pages), and 5) a statement describing the candidate’s potential contributions to Davidson’s institutional commitment to diversity and inclusive pedagogy, including past experience with relevant initiatives and inclusive pedagogies (limited to two pages).

The initial screening of candidates will be based on an evaluation of the candidates’ statement of potential contributions to Davidson’s commitment to diversity and inclusive pedagogy. Inquiries may be sent to Dr. Chris Paradise at chparadise@davidson.edu.
