Multiple postdoctoral positions are available in the lab of Dr. Quan Wang at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda MD. Start date will be flexible and can be as early as Sept. 2021.
Research in Quan Wang’s lab develops new techniques to visualize a diverse array of biological processes at the level of individual molecules in solution. We use feedback control to hold single biomolecule still in aqueous solution (i.e. the ABEL trap) and study biochemical dynamics unlimited by diffusion. Scientific interests include structural heterogeneity of biomolecules, assembly/disassembly of multi-subunit enzymes and post-translational modifications. By pushing the limits of current single-molecule modalities (Nat. Methods, 2021) and expanding the dimensionality of measurements (Nat. Methods, 2014, bioRxiv 2021), we provide detailed observations of biomolecule actions and interactions in real-time, one molecule at a time. We conduct quantitative physical modeling and simulations to understand these rich datasets with the goal of revealing biophysical principles that underpin biological function. Specific projects will be decided based on the candidate’s background and scientific interests.
Candidates with a wide range of expertise will be considered. Priority will be given to candidates with either a solid background in building instrumentation (e.g. advanced microscopy, laser spectroscopy) or in molecular biology (e.g. protein expression, bioconjugation). Candidates must be proficient in at least one of the following programming languages: Matlab/C/Python and hold a Ph.D. (or equivalent) with less than five years of postdoctoral experience.
