Our staff in Epidemiology provide leadership and expertise to develop and execute the Epidemiology strategy across the spectrum of drug development, from early drug discovery to registration, reimbursement and lifecycle management. As a Senior Epidemiology Manager, you will provide scientific leadership in the application of epidemiological expertise and methods to answer key challenges identified across all phases of medicine development for an asset or disease area to more efficiently and effectively deliver new medicines to patients. You will be responsible for planning, implementing and delivering high quality, scientifically robust observational research projects which support drug development programs, regulatory submissions and post marketing safety and effectiveness. These responsibilities include some of the following: As a technical expert in epidemiology and the disease area, maintain and expand an epidemiology support strategy aligned to the drug development strategy and aimed to: Improve disease understanding relevant to drug development: incidence, prevalence, risk factors, natural history course, treatment patterns, co-morbidities, co-medications, outcome measures, phenotypes, biomarkers, unmet needs, and their variations across domains such as demographics and geographies. Develop a network to ensure alignment of an epidemiology program with the broader asset/disease strategy and plays a role in developing a key understand across stakeholders (clinical, safety, regulatory, value evidence, asset leadership) of the impact of epidemiology on the asset/disease strategy. Critically appraise existing epidemiology evidence and create new evidence through delivery of specific research plans/protocols and analysis of healthcare databases available within GSK. Communicate study findings to relevant internal and external audiences effectively. Extend a track record of external publications in peer reviewed journals in support of asset teams. Identify innovative, timely and cost effective methods to conduct epidemiologic studies. Negotiate internal funding of projects. Develop and negotiate research plans with external collaborators in academia or contract research organizations and work effectively with vendors for outsourced studies. Identify new vendors, tools and datasources to deliver epidemiology solutions for the asset/disease area. Contribute to strategic initiatives on role of Epidemiology at departmental or VEO level. Is an internal expert who may represent GSK on scientific discussions with internal governance bodies and external regulators/external conferences with support. Bring RWE insights to inform asset/disease area strategy, development activities for one asset or disease area. Propose and negotiates content of epidemiologic program and budget with matrix leader. Provide expert epidemiological consultation as needed to asset matrix teams (VET, CDT, SRT, IET, MDT/EDT as required). May lead more complex epidemiological studies and negotiate new partnerships with oversight from more senior staff members. May contribute to advancing the science through membership of external initiatives (e.g. ICPE, IMI). May contribute to departmental initiatives driving innovative solutions through evaluation of tools, methodologies or processes. Why you? Basic Qualifications: We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals: Masters degree in Epidemiology or other Quantitative Public Health discipline. Experience applying epidemiologic methods in at least one disease area 1+ years in the pharmaceutical industry or equivalent experience in an academic or government setting preferred Experience operating in a matrix environment with independent delivery of increasingly complex epidemiological studies including regulatory requirements. Demonstrated epidemiological expertise and developing the ability to influence key internal (matrix leaders) and external (regulators) stakeholders specifically around scientifically robust and strategic approaches to delivering epidemiological science to answer key asset challenges. Highly proficient written, verbal and listening skills. Preferred Qualifications: If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus: Doctoral degree in Epidemiology or other Quantitative Public Health discipline. Expertise in complex research techniques, tools, and procedures (e.g. quantitative research methods, multiple study designs). Expertise in design, conduct and appropriate dissemination of de novo and epidemiologic database studies. Broad knowledge of private and public use datasets Why GSK?
