Postdoctoral Position Available

Postdoctoral position is available in Dr. Jiang Zhu's laboratory for highly motivated candidates who are interested in vaccine development for diverse viral pathogens, such as HIV-1, HCV, Ebola, RSV, Flu, ZIKV, MERS-CoV, and SARS-CoV-1/2. Postdoctoral salary is in the range of $58,240 to $62,000 depending on prior research experience and qualifications. Dr. Zhu holds a joint appointment in the Department of Integrative Structural and Computational Biology (ISCB) and the Department of Immunology and Microbiology at Scripps Research in La Jolla, CA (https://www.scripps.edu).

Dr. Zhu's laboratory combines structure-based antigen design, protein nanoparticle engineering, animal immunization, single-cell technologies, and immune repertoire profiling to develop and evaluate the next-generation vaccine candidates. Currently, two vaccine candidates for HIV-1 and SARS-CoV-2 are under clinical development. Details of Dr. Zhu's laboratory, ongoing research projects and recent publications can be found at https://www.jzhulab.org/.

Research projects may involve but are not limited to (1) structural biology: crystallographic analysis of antibody/antigen complexes and electron microscopic analysis of nanoparticles; (2) virology: infections and diseases caused by RSV, HIV, ZIKV, Ebola, and Coronavirus; (3) vaccine delivery: development of mRNA and viral vector-based vaccines; and (4) immunology: immunological analysis of vaccine-induced response in animal models and humans.

Successful candidates will have a recent Ph.D. in biophysics, structural biology, virology, microbiology, immunology or other related fields. Candidates with prior research experience in RSV, HIV, ZIKV, and Ebola vaccines are especially encouraged to apply. Interested applicants should send the following materials in an application packet, preferably as a single PDF file, by email to Dr. Jiang Zhu (jiang@scripps.edu):

   1) Cover letter indicating current and future research interests

   2) Expected starting date

   3) Curriculum vitae

   4) Brief summary of previous research experience (2-3 pages)

   5) Names and contact information for 3 references.
