Description

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Swarthmore College invites applications for a full-time tenure track appointment at the level of Assistant Professor to begin in Fall 2022. The successful candidate will have research interests in the field of experimental synthetic organic chemistry, broadly defined. The candidate will participate in the organic chemistry lecture and laboratory curricula as well as in the general chemistry curricula. Teaching an upper-level seminar on the topic of faculty interest or a first-year seminar to non-science majors is also anticipated.

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry has 8.5 permanent tenure lines, a Lecturer, four lab instructors and an instrument specialist. The Department graduates between 10 and 20 majors in Chemistry and Biochemistry as well as special majors in Chemical Physics and Chemistry Education. Classes for majors are small, students are motivated, and the opportunities for collaboration with colleagues and students are real and abundant. Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a PhD in hand by August 2022, a compelling classroom presence, a broad range of teaching and research interests appealing to a diverse student population, and a demonstrated interest in interdisciplinary and cross-departmental collaboration. Postdoctoral experience is highly encouraged.

The strongest candidates will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to creative teaching and an active research program that speaks to and motivates undergraduates from diverse backgrounds.
