Specific Responsibilities:

Responsible for one or more of the following daily activities, as appropriate with supervision:

Codes Adverse Event (AE) and medical history (MH) terms with MedDRA Dictionary, and medication terms (CM) with WHODrug in accordance with Gilead coding conventions Collaborates with Clinical Data Management (CDM) and other groups within Clinical Data Science (CDS) to ensure timely completion of coding jobs and reviews Monitors the MSS Global Surveillance & Analytics (GSA) Coding Strategy (CS) Inbox and ARGUS SharePoint, responding to queries in a timely manner Performs AE consistency reviews Identifies coding issues and proactively proposes possible solutions to CS Leadership May collaborate with other MSS staff to create search term lists in a timely manner and with CS senior member's guidance May collaborates on small projects as needed May collaborate with other MSS staff to identify AE signals and trends with specific guidance Assists with additional activities in order to support the CS group e.g. taking meeting minutes

Essential Duties and Job Functions:

Participates in the Core Coding Committee (CCC) meetings Develops solutions to moderately complex problems, and refers to established precedents and policies, or uses original thinking May participate on cross-functional teams and may represent group as a prime contact on projects. Participates in determining objectives of assignments, plans, schedules, and arranges activities to accomplish objectives in a timely manner; work is reviewed periodically for adequacy in meeting objectives Supports team objectives, priority projects and long-range goals of the department Recognizes and seeks interdepartmental assistance for missing data

Knowledge, Experience and Skills

Demonstrates proficient ability to perform medical coding using MedDRA and WHODrug Dictionary and solid knowledge of medical terminology and medications Demonstrates effectiveness in cooperation and teamwork, judgment and problem solving, and planning and information seeking skills Demonstrates good analytical thinking skills, attention to detail, teamwork and initiative; maintains confidentiality; maintains meticulous attention to project deadlines Demonstrates knowledge and application of biopharmaceutical industry standards and practices Demonstrates proficiency in verbal and written communication, including the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point (Microsoft Office products are preferred) Requires a degree in health or basic sciences (e.g., nursing, pharmacy, biosciences or other related scientific field) or professional qualification in a relevant scientific/technical discipline Related experience in the life sciences, or biopharmaceutical industry, clinical research, or other healthcare field may be used as substitution for required education
