The laboratory of Metabolism and Exposure is looking for multiple postdoctoral fellows to train and work in Dr. Nathaniel Snyder’s laboratory in the Center for Metabolic Disease Research at Temple University School of Medicine.  A successful candidate will have a choice of projects ranging from fundamental biochemistry, cell and organism metabolism, cancer metabolism, cardiac metabolism, pharmacology, and/or bioanalytical chemistry. The successful candidate should hold a PhD or equivalent degree in biomedical sciences with demonstrated scientific writing skills.  Co-mentored positions with Dr. Katherine Aird (University of Pittsburgh) in cancer metabolism and senescence are also currently available and interested candidates should indicate this in their cover letter.  This can include work alternating between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh if desired.

Ability and desire to bring new skills as well as diversity in thought, background, and training to the laboratory will be considered favorably. Likewise, individuals eligible for administrative supplements for training are encouraged to apply and should indicate this in their cover letters.  Experience working both independently and under direction is also critical. Ideally, the candidate should have some experience with quantitative liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry applied to biological specimens (but this is not a pre-requisite as training in this specialty will be provided).

Training will include performing the following duties on a full-time basis. The fellow will perform scientific experiments within the research laboratory. They will develop independent research projects focused on studies of metazoan metabolism, isotope tracing, and/or targeted and untargeted metabolomics/ lipidomics/ exposomics in addition to designing, developing, and conducting research with a wide range of collaborators. The fellow will be responsible for data collection, maintaining research records, results analysis, and manuscript drafting.  Negotiable responsibilities include grant writing, project management, and management of staff and students.  The fellow will be given opportunities to train junior staff and students in research methods, and to attend and present their data at national and/or international conferences.  They will be expected to develop an increasingly independent project over the course of the fellowship.  Salary will follow NRSA fellowship levels, contracts are renewed yearly up to 7 years, and flexibility in workdays can be accommodated.  Cover letter, 1 page research statement, and CV should be sent to NateWSnyder@temple.edu
