Site Name: USA - Pennsylvania - Upper Providence Posted Date: Jul 12 2021 We are seeking a highly motivated scientist to fill a molecular biology laboratory position in the Protein, Cell, & Structural Sciences Department within the Medicinal Science & Technology division of R&D located in Upper Providence, PA. The primary responsibility of the department is to design, generate and validate biological reagents for discovery activities across all of GSK's therapeutic modalities. The department also provides the structural and mechanistic understanding of drug target, molecular recognition, and mode of action to deliver the best molecule. The successful candidate will be responsible for the conceptual design and generation of protein and cellular reagents for use in GSK's small molecule drug discovery platforms enabling mechanistic studies, assay development, protein generation, or structural/biophysical workstreams. This scientist will have the opportunity to work on targets in multiple therapeutic areas as well as with automation/high-throughput workflows. Title and salary will be commensurate with experience. This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career, these responsibilities include some of the following… Design and generate plasmid constructs for expression in bacterial, insect, mammalian, and cell-free systems Enable high-throughput protein expression platforms by contributing to library design, molecular biology, and interfacing with automation equipment Work in a matrix team environment to enable optimal delivery of project and department objectives to the highest possible scientific standard Independently execute laboratory experiments and data analysis with an emphasis on providing appropriate context for data and experiments in the progress of programs and/or platforms Work closely to enable external partners to generate biological reagents to support GSK discovery programs Ensure compliance with all GSK R&D data integrity practices, ethics codes, standards and training, and safety training and practice Why you? Basic Qualifications: We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals: Bachelor's degree in a life sciences discipline (e.g. molecular biology, cellular biology, immunology) with at least 5+ years of relevant laboratory experience, or a Master's with at least 1+ years of relevant laboratory experience. Experience with plasmid construct design and generation via virtual methods and/or practical bench work Preferred Qualifications: If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus: Practical knowledge of one or more of the following: Gene synthesis, plasmid sub-cloning, and mutagenesis Genomic DNA, RNA, cDNA, & protein lysate isolation/preparation Primer design and DNA sequencing PCR, RT-PCR, quantitative RT-PCR, SDS-PAGE electrophoresis & immunoblotting Experience with molecular biology software (e.g. Benchling, SnapGene, Vector NTI, NCBI-BLAST) or bioinformatic approaches to plasmid design Length or combinatorial DNA library design & construction Automation or high throughput enabling equipment / workflows Ability to plan and execute multiple tasks concurrently and evaluate multiple scientific strategies in parallel where appropriate Demonstrated strengths in high performance behaviors, such as building relationships, flexible thinking, and enabling/driving change Excellent communication skills, both written and oral Why GSK?
