Full Time Senior Scientist   

Eastern Virginia Medical School is recruiting for a full-time position in proteomics/genomics. The candidates recruited will work with other faculty and staff in a consortium program focused on diagnostics and therapeutics. This position is in the Leroy T. Canoles Jr. Cancer Research Center and is part of a partnership between EVMS, Old Dominion University, Sentara Healthcare, and the Hampton Roads Biomedical Research Consortium.  Experience in Molecular Biology, Genomics, Mass Spectrometry, Proteomics and Metabolomics analysis is preferred. Working experience with multiple vendor mass spectrometer instrumentation, liquid chromatography systems and accessory software including: Thermo Fisher Scientific Orbitrap Eclipse, Orbitrap Fusion Lumos and Q-Exactive Orbitrap, and ABSciex Q-TRAP Triple Quadrupole mass spectrometers is preferred. Additional expertise in Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data acquisition and Molecular Bioinformatics analysis experience is desired and will be an added advantage.  A Master’s degree in biomedical sciences or related field plus three (3) years’ research laboratory experience is the minimum required, a PhD degree is preferred.

This position will work under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator and should have expertise in molecular biology, biochemistry and macromolecular analysis techniques. Mass Spectrometry, NGS and/or Proteomic/genomic analysis experience is required. The position will be responsible for managing the operations of the proteomics/genomics laboratory, molecular analyses, method development, facility and instrument operations and maintenance. Ability to multi-task in a highly dynamic environment and flexibility to work in a fast-paced team in a professional and pleasant manner is a necessity. 

Additional requirements: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.  Ability to write scientific and technical reports.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, researchers and other employees of the medical school.
