A postdoc scientist position is available to work on exciting projects with the potential for highly impactful outcomes. Rank commensurate with experience. Attractive salary!

We work on “big ideas” with a profound transformative potential. We study mechanisms of brain diseases to determine the contribution of viral infection to neurodevelopmental or neurodegenerative disease risk or severity. We investigate the interactions between viruses, aging/senescence and brain diseases, using cutting-edge technologies and models, including stem cells, human brain organoids and genetically engineered mouse models. Further, we are engineering “smart” (safe, specific, site-selective, synthetic viruses) to target specific neural circuits in the brain, in order to develop gene therapies for brain disorders that would effectively compete out invasive or difficult-to-translate approaches, such as deep brain stimulation or optogenetics. To achieve these highly promising ideas, we collaborate intensively with colleagues in relevant fields, including labs of Drs. Paul Robbins (U Minnesota), Bo Liang (UND), Lin Tian, (Davis), Eric Lazartigues (LSU), Kent Tseng (UTMB), and Jacob Raber (OHSU).

This position would be a perfect fit for a highly motivated junior scientist who wants to work on an impactful project and advance to an excellent faculty or industry position. Broad skills in life sciences are needed, including, cell culture, mouse models, mouse brain stereotaxic injections, histology, imaging, molecular biology, protein biochemistry, gene editing, neuroscience (molecular and circuitry), etc. Independence and motivation (being self-driven) are essential. To be considered for this position, please email your CV to abraam.yakoub@und.edu
