Site Name: USA - Pennsylvania - Upper Providence Posted Date: Jul 28 2021 We are seeking a highly motivated Scientific Manager to work on new treatments to address the threat of infectious diseases by joining our growing Infectious Diseases Research Unit (IDRU) focused on Infectious Diseases at Upper Providence, PA. The Infectious Diseases Research Unit is one of the 3 Research Units in the R&D organization at GSK and is responsible for the discovery of novel approaches & targets to treat infectious diseases that threaten our health. The IDRU has an impactful portfolio of projects in bacterial infections, hepatitis B, and viral respiratory infections (including COVID-19) along with collaborations with Vir Biotechnology and 23&Me. As a Scientific Leader in the IDRU, you will support a team in the strategy, design and execution of scientific studies for the delivery of new medicines for the treatment and/or prevention of infectious diseases and lead microbiology efforts on the nonclinical and clinical development of GSK antibacterials. The successful candidate will be office based and part of the growing team in our Collegeville, PA location. The selected candidate will be expected to be a leader supporting the development of the scientists on their team. These responsibilities include some of the following: Lead a team of scientists to define, design, and execute scientific studies and lead efforts on development of GSK antibacterials Provide scientific insights and strategy on microbiology aspects to support GSK's drug discovery portfolio. As a subject matter expert in microbiology, maintain knowledge of relevant literature, and effective incorporation of the knowledge and technology to positively impact the project. Clear communication of study results and impact in written form at internal and external meetings. Effectively resolve scientific and technical challenges using knowledge and subject matter expertise/experience to enable program progression. Why you? Basic Qualifications: We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals: Master of Science degree (microbiology, molecular biology, immunology or related field) with 8 to years of relevant research experience or a PhD with 6 to 8 years of working experience in the antibiotic therapeutic area including experience in the following: antibacterial susceptibility testing, research and development of antibacterial drugs, antibacterial clinical trials, regulatory submissions, monitoring or conducting antibacterial surveillance studies A broad and integrated knowledge of microbiology and antibacterial drug development including: Experience in susceptibility testing methodology and excellent working knowledge in clinical microbiology Experience in pharmaceutical industry setting with research and development experience in the antibacterial field Expertise in clinical microbiology including CLSI/EUCAST procedures and guidelines. Knowledge of FDA guidelines & the microbiology requirements for regulatory submission of antibacterial agents. Preferred Qualifications: If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus: Ph.D. and postdoctoral research in microbiology 8-10 years pharmaceutical, biotechnology or academic laboratory experience working in a matrixed drug discovery or development project team Previous experience with supporting infectious disease clinical trials Previous experience with supporting regulatory submission of antibacterial agents. Demonstrated experience in: Antimicrobial susceptibility testing Pharmacokinetics/Pharmacodynamic principles for antibiotics Molecular microbiology Bacterial genetics Proficient with standard office products including Excel and Powerpoint Ability to adapt to changing priorities Strong work ethic with desire to carry out independent hypothesis generation and testing Proactive and highly self-motivated self-starter with strong analytical and troubleshooting skills Outstanding written and oral communication skills Demonstrated capability to work effectively individually and in fast-paced team/matrix environments Ability to manage and develop a group of scientists to foster a culture of innovation, teamwork, performance and trust Why GSK?
