The purpose of the role is to establish and maintain the highest medical professionalism and scientific excellence standards within Pfizer I&I Medical Affairs so that medical affairs colleagues are able to act as peers to external stakeholders and be valued partners internally. This will lead to advancing the organization's mission for the safe and effective use of current and future Pfizer I&I medicines and ensuring the highest quality insights collected through customer-facing interactions of medical affairs colleagues.

The Medical Affairs Academy Director is expected to have peer-to-peer relationships with senior members of the I&I Medical Affairs organization. The position has broad impact throughout the organization and requires a medical professional with an understanding of the global pharmaceutical industry, products, strategic thinking skills, leadership ability, and strong knowledge about the I&I stakeholder community and medical affairs within the industry. The Medical Affairs Academy Director will lead with integrity and be a role model for medical professionalism and scientific excellence.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

This position reports to the Pfizer I&I Medical Affairs Capabilities Lead. The Medical Affairs Academy Director will:
  • Work with the Medical Affairs Academy Lead to continue the evolution of the I&I Medical Affairs Academy strategic competency framework
  • Partner with the global, NA, IDM & EM I&I medical affairs teams to align on the development of training curricula and on the most effective training strategies
  • Lead the execution of the medical training strategies globally and within countries. Strategies will include developing and maintaining Pfizer I&I Medical Affairs knowledge within the three main I&I therapeutic areas of rheumatology, dermatology, and gastroenterology, as well as advancing overall Medical Affairs skills for the entire I&I Medical Affairs organization.
  • May be responsible for building/sourcing and skills training into the I&I Medical Affairs Academy curriculum by partnering with other Pfizer medical and non-medical functions eg. External Excellence, Pfizer Learning Academy
  • Provide exceptional professional oversight (clinical/medical and training) of all content developed for training & learning
  • Deploy standardized metrics for measuring and improving knowledge and capabilities
  • Identify and pilot innovative learning opportunities
  • Support systems and processes associated with developing the next generation of personalized learning for I&I MA


QUALIFICATIONS

Basic Qualifications
  • PhD., PharmD., DVM or equivalent professional degrees
  • 7+ years of experience in either the pharmaceutical industry, academic centers, clinical practice, or a combination of these
  • In-depth experience within I&I required
  • Strong strategic mindset,
  • Understanding of medical affairs, clinical development, health policy, and technology
  • Demonstration of leading innovative projects
  • Very strong communications and relationship building capacity
  • Ability to work autonomously and effectively in a fast-paced, complex, matrix environment
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated success at leading matrix teams
  • An understanding of adult learning principles and experience of incorporating these into the development of learning resources and workshops
  • Understanding of the changing global health environment
  • Clinical background a plus
  • Medical Affairs experience strongly preferred
  • US Field Medical Experience
  • Experience working in a learning and development organization
  • Prior teaching experience at an academic institution in a related field


NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
  • Remote and up to 25% travel including international travel post-pandemic
