OPEN-RANK PROFESSOR OF CELL BIOLOGY AND PHYSIOLOGY

The Department of Cell Biology and Physiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, School of Medicine invites applications for several tenure track positions at the level of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor. The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent degree and must have an exceptional record of publications in leading peer-reviewed journals, a well-defined research vision, and will be expected to establish and maintain an innovative, externally funded research program. Applicants may have research interests in broad aspects of cell biology and physiology and may employ a wide variety of experimental approaches and animal models. Research areas of particular interest include gastrointestinal biology, endocrine physiology, neurodegeneration and cardiovascular physiology. Outstanding work in any discipline that capitalizes on the integration of cellular function with physiological states will be considered. Basic science applicants with demonstrated experience in leading clinical collaborations are encouraged to apply. Responsibilities will include building an innovative and competitive research program supported by extramural funding, teaching and training in medical and graduate education and participation in our collegial and interactive academic and research environment. We strongly encourage applications from all underrepresented groups.

The Department provides a robust environment for investigation of cellular behaviors within a physiological context, and is the 2nd nationally-ranked physiology department in total NIH funding. Faculty within the unit benefit from robust interdisciplinary research collaborations between other departments, centers and schools at UNC. UNC faculty, postdocs and graduate students also interact with colleagues at nearby Duke and North Carolina State Universities, as well as other institutions in Research Triangle Park. The quality of life in North Carolina's Triangle area is consistently rated among the highest in the nation, most recently securing the No. 2 spot overall in U.S. News & World Report’s 2021 “Best Places to Live”. UNC was listed as one of the top 20 “Best Places to Work in Academia” in 2013 by The Scientist magazine. We stand united in our recognition and commitment to an inclusive, diverse, and equitable environment for faculty, students, postdoctoral/clinical fellows, and staff because we believe that diversity enriches our university by building creative teams that foster scientific discovery and enhance our teaching missions.

Candidates should submit a Cover Letter, Curriculum Vitae, a 2-3 page summary of past and future research goals, and contact information for four references at:
