Specific Responsibilities:

Seeking a highly motivated, creative and collaborative individual with a strong passion for and dedication to the discovery of new life-saving medicines. The candidate will join our internal efforts focused on the research and development of novel treatment, prevention and HIV cure therapeutics, including small molecule drugs, biologics and vaccines. The successful candidate will work in a highly collaborative environment to support the discovery and optimization of novel small molecules for HIV treatment and prevention. Primary responsibilities will include conducting in vitro virology studies to characterize newly discovered molecules as well as designing and evaluating new targets and therapeutic approaches in a fast-paced team environment. The successful candidate would be expected to:
  • Conduct a variety of anti-HIV assays in cell lines and primary cells
  • Conduct in-depth characterization of mechanisms of antiviral activity
  • Characterize in vitro resistance profiles of lead compounds and/or biologics
  • Make effective use of literature and CROs to complement research activities
  • Support external collaborations that complement research goals
  • Regularly document research findings in electronic notebook entries
  • Potentially lead discovery virology efforts on cross-functional research teams
  • Present regular research updates to project teams and R&D management

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

PhD in virology or relevant life science discipline

Minimum of 2 years post-PhD research experience focused on innovative research in virology with proven achievements in academic or industrial settings.

Hands-on experience and broad expertise in virology techniques, molecular biology and cell culture including primary cell isolation and culture is required. Experience in assay development, ability to evaluate quality of the data, recognize anomalous results and interpret experimental outcomes is essential.

Experience with a broad array of technologies and automation to support assay development and discovery research is highly desired.

Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively within the Virology group and multidisciplinary groups within Research.
