A Senior Research Associate/Postdoctoral and Research Assistant Professor positions are available in the Department of Cellular and Molecular Biology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler, in Tyler TX under Dr. Andrey A. Komissarov.

The individuals will participate in modern translational projects (P1-3) focused on Molecular Targeting (P1), and Development of Innovative Treatments (P2) of Acute and Advanced Empyema, and Analysis of Samples Collected during the CONTAIN COVID-19 clinical trial (P3).  Animal models involve USDA Regulated Species (rabbits).  The projects 1&2 include animal sample collection and analysis, tissue processing, tissue culture, storage, and processing.  Slide preparations, histologic and immunohistochemical techniques and other biochemical tissue analyses as required. Analyses of samples collected from patients with empyema, and with COVID-19 are part of P1 and P3, respectively.  Duties include performing independent research, carrying out experiments, analyzing results and their presentation (abstracts, posters, papers). The pre-clinical study requires extensive additional independent animal husbandry duty (that may include evening and weekend observations/pain support) and required clinical support under the supervision of an attending veterinarian/vivarium staff.  These positions include opportunity for further career development.

Required Education / Experience:

Doctoral degree in one of the life sciences with 3+ years (Postdoctoral Fellow) or 5+ (Research Assistant Professor) of relevant wet laboratory experience and working knowledge of relevant laboratory procedures.  

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in biochemistry, cell biology, and work with animal models, with the ability to think critically and independently, and with a track record of productivity.  

These positions are initially a one-year appointment, with yearly extensions expected depending on progress and performance, up to 4 years.  UT benefits including healthcare (including dental and vision), national holidays, paid vacation, and more.
