The Pfizer Internal Medicine Research Unit (IMRU) in Cambridge, MA (Kendall Square) is seeking an IMRU Alliance Manager to help identify and manage collaborative academic partnerships within IMRU that will advance the Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disease Research strategy and pipeline of portfolio projects.

Role Responsibilities
  • Partner with IMRU Alliance & Scientific leads to scope, identify, form, and manage strategically important external partnerships. Work with the IMRU Leadership Team (LT), and Alliance and Scientific leads to identify critical scientific gaps, leverage synergies across existing partnerships, and contribute to the development of an integrated resource strategy required to build and deliver the end-to-end IMRU portfolio.
  • Coordinate the development and approval of successful research plans. Support development of research proposals, and work with Alliance and Operations Leads, and External Investigators to ensure that research plans are 'contract-ready' and that internal stakeholders are aligned with proposed resource plans.
  • Provide Alliance management support for projects ranging from milestone tracking to full-service project management, depending on the complexity of the partnership. Work with other Alliance and Scientific leads and External investigators as needed to align on project deliverables and milestones, decision-trees, and support amendment of research plans as new data emerges. Track delivery of key milestones and budget commitments, and capture and archive meeting outcomes to ensure that decisions are well documented and communicated in a timely manner. Maintain close partnership with key stakeholders and work with functional leads to troubleshoot issues with reagent, resource and data flow and maintain project-level communication tools.
  • Lead Alliance team communications to regularly update IMRU LT on external portfolio progress, outcomes, impact, and provide input on recommendations for next steps. May represent Pfizer and IMRU as needed at external conferences and industry-academic consortia.
  • Work with IMRU Portfolio and External Research Operations Leads to organize project approvals and reviews, ensure timely contracting and execution of agreements, complete compliance requirements, support milestone and budget forecasting, and provide information as needed for IMRU communications.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.
  • PhD with 4-8 years postdoctoral experience, Master's Degree with 7-11 years of experience or Bachelor's degree with 9-13 years of experience in relevant Internal Medicine-based scientific discipline. Deep scientific knowledge of Metabolic disease biology, with track record of publishing in high quality journals and leading delivery of impactful datasets in both the academic and industry environment.
  • Working knowledge of biopharmaceutical research and drug discovery and experience leveraging external partnerships to deliver value for drug discovery efforts.
  • Outstanding organizational, relationship building, and influencing skills; Track record of organizing and leading multidisciplinary teams, and delivery of projects in a highly matrixed organization. Works effectively with peers, and able to gracefully facilitate complex, strategic conversations with a variety of stakeholders, including senior leaders and academic partners.
  • Experienced and comfortable working in a multi-stakeholder environment. Resourceful thinker with demonstrated creative problem-solving skills. Decision- and action-oriented and high level of autonomy; self-motivated with a track record of on-time delivery of complex projects within ambiguous situations and tight timelines.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Familiarity with Pfizer organization and processes, including an in depth understanding of Pfizer's alliance activities, processes, and practices
  • Experience in an academic business office (technology transfer and/or licensing office)
