Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, the Senior Director, WMS Strategy and Portfolio Lead is a key member of the WMS Leadership Team (LT) and is responsible for leading day to day scientific planning and oversight for select WMS priorities.

This colleague operates as a senior level advisor and objective sounding board to the CMO across a breadth of strategic scientific and portfolio initiatives, deliverables and special projects.

Role Responsibilities
  • Leveraging a deep scientific background, participate in / lead selected planning efforts & initiatives that drive advancement of Pfizer portfolio and the implementation of WMS internal/ external strategy, priorities and related communications.
  • Lead efforts to develop a strategic scientific platform for WMS and embed continuous improvement and innovation into day-to-day operations around scientific learning and development.
  • Translate and optimize Enterprise's Technology and Research strategy to lead new scientific interactions and initiatives, publish key outcomes and learnings in the scientific literature, and scale across WMS.
  • Support CMO office with scientific literature review, data analysis and interpretation with focus on translational aspects of our portfolio and pipeline
  • Develop strong understanding of Pfizer's R&D strategy, pipeline and capabilities, and actively leverage this knowledge to inform priorities for the CMO
  • Keep up with recent scientific discoveries pertinent to our R & D pipeline especially in areas of unmet medical needs and health disparity
  • Partner with CMO and CMO Chief of Staff on preparation for CMO's key scientific interactions, meetings and presentations to enhance efficiency, support new initiatives, and facilitate engagement of key partners (e.g. CSO's) and stakeholders with focus on science and medical research.
  • Work closely with CMO chief of staff in strategies that implement scientific research and data analysis in projects and initiatives such as the Institute of Translational Equitable Medicine
  • Support ideation and advancement of WMS semester goals and long-term strategy
  • Partnering with key internal stakeholders (Finance, Business Development and Legal) on WMS project


Basic Qualifications
  • PhD, MD, or equivalent in relevant biology discipline including immunology, computational biology, epidemiology, cell biology or molecular genetics
  • 12+ years of experience in the Biotech/Pharmaceutical Industry or equivalent.
  • Postdoctoral experience and publication in leading journals in field of study is highly preferred
  • Deep knowledge of at least one relevant disease area within Pfizer's therapeutic research areas, with familiarity in several others

  • Knowledge of emerging trends and technology in human scientific fields and precision medicine
  • Able to effectively interact and communicate with multidisciplinary scientists, researchers, and non-scientists- internally and externally, excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills essential
  • The successful candidate will be a well-organized, creative, independent, self-motivated individual with exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Must have a scientific background and strong interest in learning more about our R&D strategy, pipeline, key assets and capabilities.
  • Commitment to leadership, diversity and talent development
  • Expert level understanding of current state, trends and external scientific landscape across a wide range of enabling platform technologies applied in pharma R&D
  • R&D Operational and Business Line knowledge/experience a plus.
  • Robust understanding of biopharmaceutical industry, R&D processes, and the external and internal business environment
  • Familiarity with the Pfizer organization (or other relevant organization), particularly R&D/Business Units/Enabling Functions.
  • Demonstrate a fundamental understanding of the pharmaceutical/biotech business and R&D/clinical environment with experience from early discovery through clinical development of therapeutic candidates.
