ROLE SUMMARY
The incumbent develops and performs the diverse purification operations required to optimize the production of vaccine candidates including proteins, polysaccharides, and mRNA. Expertise will be used to develop new techniques, to critically evaluate results and suggest approaches to solve problems.Careful documentation and presentation of work is required.Work is to be done in a compliant manner according to SOP where applicable.

Research and Development

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and optimize purification of vaccine candidates up to pilot plant scale
- Execute various purification techniques using AKTA including affinity chromatography, SEC, IEX etc.
- Evaluate each process and technique to determine if it is robust, appropriate and scalable
- Present problems and proposed solutions in discussion with group members
- Offers insights based on experience to group members to help solve problems
- Evaluate results to determine if processes are optimal or if opportunities exist
- Present periodic status updates to the group
- Prepare technical reports as needed
- Fully document laboratory experiments in notebooks in a timely and compliant manner
- Execute analyses to characterize products
- Assist in developing new assays and adapt existing assays to new materials
- Discuss analytical issues with team members to help advance objectives
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
BioProcess group and others in Vaccine Research East & Early Development, BTx-Pharm Science
QUALIFICATIONS
- B.S or M.S degree in Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering or related discipline
- B.S with 3 years of experience or M.S with 0-3 years of experience in relevant field
- Experiences with FPLC is highly desirable but not required
TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
- Experience in purification of biologics
- Experience in a process development
- Good written and verbal communication capabilities
- Experience with scale-up and protein/polysaccharide/mRNA analysis techniques is desirable
- Ability to work independently
