The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) invites applications for a tenure-track ASSISTANT PROFESSOR position in microbial genetics/genomics to start in Fall 2022. We seek an outstanding candidate with a strong record of research in microbial genetics and pathogenesis to join a diverse microbial research faculty. This position is part of a larger departmental strategic hiring initiative with future hires focused on research in Ecology and Molecular Biology of Host-Pathogen Interactions.

Research may include mechanisms of bacterial virulence, antimicrobial resistance, microbe-host or microbe-virus interactions, effects of the host microbiome on disease, and related areas. Laboratory space accommodating BSL-1 or BSL-2 is available. A Ph.D. degree and at least 2 years postdoctoral experience in microbial genetics or a related area are required. The successful candidate will establish a vigorous, extramurally funded research program, train students (undergraduate, M.S., and Ph.D.) and postdoctoral associates, and contribute to both the Microbiology and Biological Sciences curriculum, including a course in microbial genetics. We encourage applications from members of groups that are typically under-represented in science.

To apply, please go to https://jobs.uwm.edu/postings/31152. A completed application should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of research interests (3 page maximum), teaching philosophy (1 page maximum). Additionally, as part of our application process, we require the names and contact information of three professional references. Letters will be requested for short-listed candidates. Review of applications will start on September 1, 2021 and will continue until the position is filled.
