If so, this Scientist in Virology role could be an exciting opportunity to explore. The Virology group at the US Research and Development Group, GSK Vaccines, is responsible for using classical and cutting-edge technologies to study virus-host interactions, characterize the innate and adaptive immune responses to vaccines, and develop new assays supporting further advancement of vaccine candidates. We are looking for a highly motivated, innovative scientist with a proven record in virology to join our team and help usher a wide variety of vaccine candidates through preclinical development. This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career. These responsibilities include some of the following: Use virology expertise to help plan and carry out experiments supporting vaccine development projects Develop assays to monitor immune responses generated by vaccine candidates Assist in the characterization and optimization of self-amplifying mRNA vaccine platforms Analyze, interpret and record experimental results and present them in written/oral communications. Work cross-functionally across the GSK Vaccines and Pharma network to coordinate and execute studies by collaborating with scientists throughout the organization to support bioimaging activities. Cultivate extramural activities with collaborators from academic and research organizations Develop and execute new methods and protocols and proactively incorporate new technology or techniques into practice with minimal supervision. Perform complex data management tasks to deliver data that informs vaccine research activities with scientific independence and minimal supervision. Lead and support vaccine development-related scientific investigations and publish the work in scientific journals and patent filings. Why you? Basic Qualifications: We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals: PhD in Biological Sciences with 0+ years of experience OR master's degree with 3+ years' laboratory experience working in pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry, academic or government institutes OR Bachelors with 6+ years of experience working in pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry, academic or government institutes. Experience using a wide variety of molecular biology techniques. Preferred Qualifications: If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus: Effective written and oral communication skills, as well as presentation skills. Demonstrate a detailed knowledge of virology and/or innate immunity. Prior experience working with RNA viruses (especially alphaviruses) or viral vectors (e.g. lentiviral vectors or VSV pseudovirions) Experience in approaches used to monitor activation of innate immunity pathways (transcriptomics, cytokine profiling, imaging, etc.) Strong scientific track record of published scientific contribution Must be detail oriented; possess problem solving skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks. Able to efficiently manage uncertainty, changes in priority and timeline restrictions. Why GSK?
