This coupled with an exponential increase of data generation and evolution of innovative technologies, the momentum and activities in the PM space are heightening. In GSK, companion diagnostics (CDx) & PM, residing within the Experimental Medicine Unit (EMU) has enabled the registration and approval of recent assets (dostarlimab & niraparib) and PM is continuing to contribute in many dimensions to medicines development across the oncology portfolio. Moving forward, the pipeline will increasingly require systematic deployment of PM solutions, not only in Oncology, but also in other diseases. Driven by a rapidly changing competitive landscape in PM and propelled by the exponential innovation occurring in the PM space (technology advancement, multiplex biomarker development, utilization of AI/ML, development of novel & digital endpoints), it is important to enable systematic development and delivery of PM solutions that support our ambition to deliver transformation medicines leading to better outcomes for patients. The new role External Business Strategy Head PM/CDx (Oncology) will be accountable for the identification, evaluation, implementation and strategic oversight for the delivery of external PM solutions in support of the R&D pipeline. The External Business Strategy Head will report to the SVP, Head of Experimental Medicine in Oncology and will be accountable for leading the end-to-end oversight of external PM deals and alliances. More specifically, the new role will partner with GSK's Worldwide Business Development team (WWBD) who will be responsible for negotiating, transacting and managing deals post signing. Additionally, the new role will work with other support functions (EMU, legal, finance, procurement, etc), as needed, in an oversight capacity to deliver PM deals and alliances. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Identification, sourcing, outreach and assessment of innovative business and partnering opportunities for experimental and precision medicine in support of the GSK pipeline Key point of contact within Global Oncology R&D for the WWBD team (or other transaction support teams when applicable). Develop strategic plans to support the building of business cases for external Precision Medicine BD opportunities Leverage appropriate technologies, networks and Intelligence, to support effective BD Search and Evaluation Strategy Cultivate and grow GSK Precision Medicine partnerships with Diagnostic and Technology Platform developers to support Oncology EMU to advance research, clinical and/or commercial programs Foster effective partnering across the organization. Setting an expectation in the team of connection and collaboration with key partners e.g. WWBD, Legal, Finance, Procurement, EMU leadership, Commercial and be accountable for leading the end-to-end progression and delivery of deals and subsequent partner management and oversight post agreement execution. While this role is not accountable for negotiating/ completing a transaction, they will be the primary business contact for the prospective partners throughout the entire process. Ability to tackle a wide range of projects and competent in working from early development through late stage Precision Medicine opportunities. Skillful in leading a matrix team successfully through complex internal and external engagements and be ready to conduct impromptu and formal briefings with senior management (through the governance structure at GSK or otherwise) Capable of working across all levels of R&D and commercial for Precision Medicine. Working closely with the SVP, Global Head of the EMU and members of WWBD, the job holder will present proposals and opportunities to GSK governance boards as needed. Applies excellent judgement to determine the key risks and opportunities in each proposition and be instrumental in determining the path forward for a given proposition (i.e. reject or progress to senior management for further guidance). Accountable for preparing reports, proposals, and materials for governance boards and for external interactions when necessary. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 10 plus years of experience in Business Strategy/ Development in the Pharmaceutical/Biotech industry MS or PhD in Life Sciences Experience in drug development and commercial processes, including the application of PM/CDx tools 5 plus years of leadership in a matrix environment PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 5+ years working with diagnostic companies who serviced Pharma companies in Research & Development and/or Real Word Data MBA Strong analytical skills and ability to ascertain salient points from large amount of information Strong interpersonal, communication and team leadership skills Demonstrates flexibility and ability to work well with ambiguity and in intense situations Gravitas and experience to create a positive relationship with third parties; serve as ambassador at board/committee level Highly skilled business leader who can advise WWBD during PM/CDx transactions; experienced in working in an intense, rapidly evolving environment with an entrepreneurial approach to external relationships Proactive mindset that bridges ideas to implementable solutions, and can help move both internal and external stakeholders to quickly solve problems Good knowledge of governance procedures relevant to deal progression and BD work (e.g. CDAs, Deal Flow, delegation of authorities etc.) Deep relationships with diagnostic and technology partners Proven ability to navigate multi-faceted organizations with repeated success; tenacity and resourcefulness, routinely capable of displaying a measured, proportionate and calm approach under pressure Ability to set strategies/tactics that are aggressive, but realizable Wins followers with a positive and energetic approach to work and life; gains energy from solving difficult problems Strategic leadership - ability to assess and build commitment for current and future needs based on analysis of priorities, opportunities and risks Must be able to see the “big picture' and uncover pivotal issues/opportunities and provide solutions Must be able to act decisively and independently; must have confidence to provide clear direction to make strategic and tactical decisions and prioritize effectively but knows when to seek leadership buy-in & guidance Drives accountability and empowers teams to make decisions to derive projects while knowing when to step in to remove obstacles and influence a course correction Influence - able to engage and challenge constructively across all leadership levels; Customer focused - able to consider customers' (internal and external) needs while seeing the “bigger picture” i.e. can customize support according to the priorities and needs *LI-GSK If you require an accommodation or other assistance to apply for a job at GSK, please contact the GSK Service Centre at 1-877-694-7547 (US Toll Free) or +1 801 567 5155 (outside US).
