Postdoctoral Fellow - Lipid Metabolism and Metabolic Disease, Dr. Yu Laboratory

A position of postdoctoral research fellow is immediately available in the Department of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes & Nutrition, at the University of Maryland, Baltimore.

Our research projects aim to study the role of lipid metabolism in the pathogenesis of common metabolic diseases associated with obesity, including fatty liver, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. A major goal of our research is to molecularly define how lipid droplet lipolysis influences metabolic disease at biochemical, cell signaling, cellular and whole animal levels. We are particularly interested in organ-organ communications in maintaining whole-body thermogenesis, energy balance, and metabolic health. Our approaches include genetically altered mice, metabolic phenotyping, biochemical analysis of lipid/glucose metabolism, molecular and cell biology techniques, bulk and single cell/nucleus RNA sequencing, etc.

Additional information on our research projects can be found in our recent publications, including Cell Metabolism (2017) 26(5):764-777, DOI: 10.1016/j.cmet.2017.09.002.

The candidate for this position is expected to be a highly self-motivated, recent Ph.D. graduate with strong background in molecular and cell biology, pathophysiology, and metabolic phenotyping and analysis of genetically engineered mouse models.

Candidates with additional experience in the following skills and research areas will be favorably considered: DNA cloning, isolation and culture of adipose and liver primary cells, flow cytometry analysis of immune cells, atherosclerosis analysis in mice, tissue/cell lipid extraction and TLC analysis, immunoprecipitation and protein purification, ChIP assays, and/or sample preparations for single cell or nucleus RNA sequencing.

To apply for this position, please send your CV, contact information of three referees, and a statement of research interest to Dr. Liqing Yu at
