Maternal immunization , the administration of a vaccines during pregnancy, is a well-recognized, public health strategy which aims to protect pregnant people and/or their infants against serious infectious diseases.

Pfizer MDSCA has recently established a Maternal Immunization Platform; an innovative approach to integrating the medical affairs function across several vaccine programs including RSV, GBS and Covid19. As the Global Maternal Immunization Medical Affairs Lead, the incumbent will be responsible for leading the medical affairs activities for multiple maternal vaccines programs globally under this platform.

The incumbent will guide business decisions and ensure strategic alignment between the Vaccines BU and RU for maternal vaccines by providing an expert understanding of immunology, and vaccine clinical research and development, regulatory pathways, and policy decisions. In addition, where relevant, they will ensure strategic alignment and coordination with the medical leads of other age based indications (pediatric/older adult, etc) which fall under the same infectious disease program.

Accountable for delivery of the Global Maternal Immunization Medical Plan, including ensuring a single, aligned medical strategy and position on the risk-benefit of each of the assets and communication of that position internally & externally. In parallel, they will also help to develop a framework, materials and training for establishing general maternal immunization expertise with relevant functional areas.

Contribute to the productivity of Pfizer vaccines by responsibly exploring novel initiatives and by providing expertise during participation in all aspects of governance committees, and teams.

Will help shape the strategic and scientific direction of all observational clinical/epidemiological maternal vaccine studies for MDSCA ensuring highest standards of quality and compliance and management of all prospective CT25, CT45, CT02, and CT44 studies.

The incumbent will be responsible to review all the safety aspects of maternal vaccines in promotional materials, publications, and interactions with KOLs and vaccine Technical Committees.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

As the Global Maternal Immunization Medical Affairs Lead, the incumbent will be responsible for leading the medical affairs activities for maternal vaccines globally. This will entail the following:
  • Accountable for the Medical and Lifecycle Plans and deliverables for maternal vaccines.
  • Serves as the leading advocate for the vaccines medical organization and champions MDSCA resources, needs, and priorities for the appropriate use of maternal vaccines.
  • Will support successful launch and recommendations for maternal vaccines in the US and globally.
  • Accountable for MDSCA global strategy to evaluate potential recommendations for maternal vaccines worldwide
  • MDSCA focal point for Vaccine Technical Committees and MoHs with respect to maternal vaccines
  • Partners with Commercial Development (CD) to ensure MDSCA-CD alignment on key strategies, deliverables, and communication for maternal vaccines
  • Serves as MDSCA project champion, effectively negotiating with & influencing key internal & external stakeholders including the Gates Foundation, US ACIP, UK JCVI, WHO, etc.
  • Support Asset and MSC teams with aggregated global data on studies (Pfizer-sponsored and collaborative research)
  • Partner with the global medical grants / IIR department for global view of non-maternal vaccine studies and grant requests and facilitating implementation clinically where needed.


QUALIFICATIONS
  • PhD degree with experience in vaccinology, infectious disease epidemiology, or closely-related field; specific maternal immunization program experience highly desirable
  • Vaccine and disease area expertise (training or experience) to be credible both internally and externally at an international level.
  • Experience in vaccine clinical development and medical affairs in industry.
  • At least 10 years of experience in vaccine-related clinical programs and medical/scientific activities including research, clinical and epidemiological programs.
  • Expertise in vaccines and immunization programs with an established international KOL network
  • Ability to discuss scientific aspects of vaccine development, also comfortable in discussing commercial and regulatory issues.
  • Able to review, evaluate, interpret, and present complex data.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including scientific writing skills; includes strong inter-personal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and articulate global strategies.
  • Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.


Preferred
  • Successfully interacted with regulatory agencies regarding vaccines indication and/or labeling issues.
  • Significant cross-functional leadership/management experience.
  • Track-record in publications about the development, evaluation and/or other aspects of vaccines in international peer-reviewed journals.
  • Knowledgeable of the commercial and environmental issues that drive development vaccine projects.
  • Able to set priorities and manage cross-functional teams and complex projects to deliver milestones according to set budgets.
  • Understand the emerging safety and efficacy profile of vaccine candidates including providing a perspective with comparator vaccines.
  • Able to set priorities and manage cross-functional teams and complex projects to deliver milestones according to set budgets.
  • Proven ability to influence and succeed through others and to form excellent relationships with key cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic, and proven track record of delivering high quality within timelines.
