Postdoctoral Positions in Microbial Biochemistry and Enzymology

We are seeking multiple postdocs to work on collaborative projects within a multidisciplinary team funded by the NIH and DOE. These aim at understanding how microbial species in the human gut microbiome metabolize iron within this exotic, anaerobic, low-pH compartment, and how these processes influence and are impacted by the animal host. In a related project, we are working toward understanding how methanogenic Archaea, which likewise inhabit anaerobic niches, metabolize iron, and how these metabolic processes can be manipulated for their use in biomining and energy applications.

Projects incorporate a range of experimental (cellular and molecular), spectroscopic, informatics, and biophysical approaches. Applicants should be recent Ph.D.s or graduate students within a year of completing their dissertations. They should have a strong publication record and knowledge and skills related to one or more of the following: protein biochemistry, metallobiochemistry, bioinformatics, microbiology, spectroscopy, and/or environmental science. The new postdoc will have the opportunity to gain mastery in any/all of these fields in the PI's and collaborators' labs. He/she will receive mentoring leading to the submission of postdoctoral fellowships, presentation at national and international meetings, preparation of high quality manuscripts, and development of a robust CV.

Montana State University is a research-intensive, flagship institution located in the beautiful mountain west, close to skiing, national forests, and national parks. The university provides a supportive and welcoming environment for diverse applicants from all walks of life. The lab offers competitive compensation, outstanding benefits, and opportunities for research- and conference-related travel.

Interested applicants should please send a CV and list of references to jennifer.dubois1@montana.edu.
