Dr. Shah Ali’s Lab will commence in September 2021 to investigate mechanisms of cardiomyocyte maturation and heart regeneration at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. The Lab seeks a highly motivated PhD researcher to assist with projects that involve – but are not limited to – the study of cardiomyocyte proliferation/binucleation/polyploidy, cardiac injury models, and cardiac tumors. The projects will utilize cultured mammalian cells, mouse models, and lentivirus and adeno-associated viruses. The ideal candidate will have recent lab experience, basic molecular biology skills, and experience with rodent handling; prior experience with CRISPR screens is a plus. The job also involves the design and execution of research projects, presentations at regional and international conferences, and manuscript writing and submission. The PI will work closely with the successful candidate. The candidate will also be mentored to apply for independent postdoctoral fellowship grants. Salary will adhere to the NIH Salary guidelines as well as Columbia’s guidelines, with a comprehensive benefits package.   

Qualifications:  

PhD or equivalent degree.  

Strong/recent basic research lab experience in molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, and rodent work.  

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  

Proficiency with common lab equipment and techniques required.  

Ability to multi-task and prioritize work assignments.
