What You Will Achieve

As a Senior Scientist in Manufacturing Sciences and Technology (MSAT) team at Pfizer, you will be joining a team of scientists across multiple sites focused on Pfizer's portfolio of late stage development and commercial biopharmaceuticals and vaccines. The candidate will work across Pfizer Global Supply (PGS) organization in conjunction with Bioprocess R&D to characterize manufacturing processes using bench scale models to develop and confirm various in-silico tools such as statistical and mechanistic models with increasing application of data science methods.

In this role, the candidate will be responsible for designing and executing bench scale experiments in support of in-silico tools and models. The candidate will also collaborate with manufacturing operations and Bioprocess R&D in digital twin initiatives as a subject matter expert to ensure modeling projects meet the needs of PGS. The colleague may also be involved in innovation and technology development projects that seek to improve production processes both from a process engineering as well as a biological perspective that have the potential to increase process performance and robustness.

How You Will Achieve It

  • Drive the growth of digital technologies at Pfizer for applications in MSAT
  • Contribute to enhancing the ability to efficiently utilize process data
  • Identify projects wherein use of statistical and mechanistic models to characterize a drug substance manufacturing process brings value to the organization
  • Design and assist in the execution of laboratory studies (primarily focusing on upstream processes)
  • Provide expanded analysis and understanding of laboratory results with the application of data science methods
  • Improve the efficiency and robustness of drug substance processes through utilization of scientific software, novel visualization tools, automated data provisioning pipelines
  • Author reports, papers and prepare oral presentations for internal and external audiences
  • Assist in authoring and reviewing of regulatory submissions



  • Bachelor's degree with 9+ years of experience OR Master's degree with 7 years of experience OR Ph. D. with 0-4 years of experience in biotechnology, engineering, data science, statistics, computer science, or related fields
  • Familiarity with bioprocess development and regulatory requirements
  • Experience with data analysis and modeling methods particularly in their application to bioprocess system engineering
  • Experience in advanced data analytics, machine learning methods, and software that provide new ways to build models, diagnose problems, and make informed decisions for biopharmaceutical processes
  • Proficient in benchtop bioreactor operation and associated analytical tools
  • Experience with bench scale cell culture and/or bacterial fermentation
  • Experience in data mining, visualization, integration, and development of multivariate models in the bioprocess context.
  • Proficient in MATLAB, SQL, Python, and R
  • Applicants should be organized, self-motivated, and capable of working independently, and in a collaborative environment
  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills


  • Strong statistics and programming background with proven experience delivering on data science and machine learning applications
  • Experience with the tools to develop, optimize, characterize and scale up process steps


Lifting, sitting, standing, walking, bending, ability to perform mathematical calculations and ability to perform complex data analysis and extended use of computers


Occasional off-hour work and travel
