Job Description

Gilead's therapeutic areas of focus in Italy include HIV/AIDS, liver diseases and cancer.

The Role

Reporting to the Associate Director Digital and CL&D, the Commercial Learning and Development Senior manager will provide CL&D Business Partner support for Gilead Italy.

In particular, he/she will be responsible of addressing all the commercial training needs of the recently established Breast Cancer therapeutic area, designing and managing all the pre-launch and post-launch learning and development initiatives dedicated to the field force.

By the very nature of a rapidly growing and highly demanding business, the demands upon the Commercial Learning & Development function will be wide and varied. Leaders set demanding performance expectations for their businesses and will expect the same from CL&D; balancing pragmatic solutions, flawless execution and the ability to partner & challenge effectively will be the key elements of success in the role. At the same time, and consistent with the overall culture at Gilead, this position will require someone who is very comfortable in being hands-on.

Job Responsibilities


  • Develops and coordinates launch and continuous training programs for the field, implemented either at Sales Meeting (in presence workshops or remote meetings) or at scheduled intervals, in collaboration with Marketing and Med. Affairs functions
  • Integration of the Gilead's competencies model in all field focused training activities
  • Carries responsibilities for the Breast Cancer therapeutic area launch training program
  • Manages the development and planning of initial training for new commercial hires regarding Gilead Breast Cancer portfolio
  • Supports Business Units in implementing trainings on Gilead's communication model (Elite) and soft skills (both for TSs and SMs)
  • Embodies an innovative and digital-oriented mindset and is able to exploit new technologies and methodologies to design effective trainings
  • Works cross-functionally to successfully develop and implement new training activities
  • Carries responsibility for the Gilead LMS regarding content innovation, adaptation and update for all indications in close collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders


  • Works with external partners and internal medical experts to build training materials for the Breast Cancer TA
  • Provides in field coaching to others or provides input on coaching projects
  • Actively participates in the digital transformation program of the affiliates, implementing innovative training solutions that leverage digital technology
  • Coordinates the involvement of internal and external training experts and participants
  • Build solid relationships with key stakeholders internally (i.e. Commercial Excellence, Business Units, Medical, HR, Regulatory) and externally (e.g. training specialists, coaches, centers of excellence)


  • Can do attitude and positive mindset
  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal skills in order to lead, interact with, focus, resolve conflict, and drive consensus amongst disparate groups of individuals.
  • Engaged planner, able to formulate, develop and execute training strategy, and effectively manage multiple projects/priorities
  • Robust knowledge of the fundamentals of learning ( e.g., Adult Learning; Adressing different learning styles, etc.)
  • Strong commercial training skills and thorough knowledge and/or expertise in each area (e.g., commercial skills, core business skills, soft skills, etc.).
  • Profound familiarity and knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures for sales (and other) training.
  • Demonstrates ability to conceive, develop and implement training plans of action on time and within budget.
  • Experience regarding creative content management on Learning Platforms
  • Strong affinity to digital learning environment & ideally already experience in remote product and/or skill training
  • Strong capability in leading cross-functional projects
  • Lateral leadership capabilities
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant software systems (e.g., MS Excel, MS Word & PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Digital and analytical skills

  • Solid related experience in biotech or pharmaceutical industry (Core)
  • Oncology therapeutic area/business unit (Nice to have)
  • Successful field sales experience is a plus (Nice to have)
  • At least 3 years experience in commercial training or health education (Core)
  • Fluent in English and Italian (Core)
