Assistant/Associate Professor

 

POSITION:

The Department of Nutrition and Food Science at the University of Maryland, College Park invites applications for a 9 month tenure-track position at the level of Assistant/Associate Professor to begin January 2022.

LOCATION:

Department of Nutrition and Food Science, University of Maryland, College Park, MD 20742

DESCRIPTION:

The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain an independent extramurally-funded research program in basic research associated with nutrition and prevention of human chronic diseases including but not limited to obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in molecular biology, cell biology and biochemistry techniques and a multidisciplinary approach in genetics, epigenetics, metabolomics, and microbiome research. In addition, the successful candidate will direct doctoral and master’s student research, and contribute to graduate and undergraduate teaching programs within the department. The selected applicant will have a balanced research and teaching appointment. There will be opportunities to collaborate with scientists affiliated with the Colleges of Agriculture and Natural Resources (AGNR), School of Public Health (SPH), and various government agencies including the NIH, USDA, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must have an earned doctorate in nutrition or a closely related field and be outstanding research scientists for their current rank. Applicants for Associate Professor Position are required to have an established track record of external funding as well as a strong record of publication in recognized journals. Scholarship related to nutrition and human health, in the broadest sense, should be central to the candidate's research program. Excellent communication skills and commitment to teaching and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students is vital.
