A postdoctoral position is available in the Viral Mutation Section (VMS), HIV Dynamics and Replication Program (HIV DRP), Center for Cancer Research (CCR) to perform basic research on HIV replication post-entry events, including nuclear import, nuclear uncoating, and integration site selection, and to develop novel antiviral strategies.

Our overall goal is to understand how HIV and other retroviruses interact with host factors in infected cells to carry out key essential steps to reverse transcribe their genome, gain access to the nucleus, and integrate the viral DNA into the host cell chromosomes to form a transcriptionally active provirus. We are using state-of-the-art live-cell imaging approaches to gain new insights into the mechanism and dynamics of viral core nuclear import, location and timing of viral core uncoating, and integration site selection. We are using multiple experimental approaches to identify and characterize essential molecular interactions between viral and host proteins with the goal of developing new antiviral strategies. A brief video description of these studies, which were selected by PNAS editors to receive the 2020 Cozzarelli Prize in the class of Biomedical Sciences, can be found at https://www.pnas.org/page/about/cozzarelli-prize. Further details and a list of publications can be found at https://ccr.cancer.gov/staff-directory/vinay-k-pathak.

Interested candidates must have a Ph.D. and/or an M.D. and have less than 5 years of relevant postdoctoral experience.  Applicants must have a strong background in molecular virology and/or molecular biology and biochemistry.  The stipend starts at $59,900, commensurate with experience. This is a time-limited, renewable appointment.
