The Department of Pathology is launching a major strategic initiative to recruit exceptional researchers having substantial records of extramural funding. Endowed faculty (Chair, Professorship) are immediately available for highly successful candidates. Endowed faculty will be filled at the level of Professor or Associate Professor. We strongly encourage applicants currently at the level of Associate Professor that have demonstrated exceptional research success to apply. Applications in all areas of research will be considered. Current areas of research strength within the department include:
Cardiovascular Disease, Metabolic Disease, Neurodegeneration,
Cancer, Immunology & Infectious Disease
Having over 80 full time faculty, the Department of Pathology has a major commitment to clinical care, research and education (https://www.uab.edu/medicine/pathology/). Research funding within the department currently exceeds $12 million annually with work focusing on understanding the molecular basis underlying a wide range of diverse disease processes, identifying new therapeutic targets, and developing new treatments for patients.
Driven by an intensely collaborative and entrepreneurial character, UAB is one of the leading economic engines of the State, with a nearly $4 billion budget and a statewide economic impact exceeding $7 billion annually.
