The Research Assistant II provides technical and coordination skills in carrying out various research projects.

Laboratory Safety and Education
Maintains laboratory compliance with EHS regulations.
Maintains a hardcopy and online laboratory safety notebook.
Provides laboratory and safety orientation to new hire employees.
Demonstrates safe laboratory practices and precautions. Completes all required MDACC safety courses and training.

Lab Responsibilities
Participates in meetings with regards to strategic planning of experiments, projects, and collaborations.
Independent and assisted planning, performing and analysis of experiments and animal surgeries. Acquisition and setup of equipment, supplies, animals, core laboratory services, and collaborations.
Assists with planning, performing and analysis of experiments and animal surgeries.
Providing technical assistance, answers questions concerning experiments, surgeries, equipment usage and demonstrating proper techniques, methods and protocols.
Facilitates the preparation of animals for experiments and/or surgery, including managing animal colony, breeding, genotyping, administering anesthesia and performing or assisting surgeries.
Maintains a safe and contamination free tissue culture facility.
Responsible for maintaining laboratory notebooks, data, reagents and cell lines.

Education Required:
Bachelor's degree with major course works in one of the basic sciences.

Education Preferred:
Master's degree with major course works in one of the basic sciences

Experience Required:
Two years experience in scientific or experimental research work. No experience required with preferred degree.

Experience Preferred:
Three to five years working in a laboratory environment.
Hands on experience in the research laboratory including biochemical techniques (western blotting, PCR), molecular and cell biological methods (RNA and DNA isolation, sterile cell culture assays), and research experimental animal manipulation (dissections, injections, etc).
Must be able to communicate clearly, in both verbal and written means. Must be able to follow verbal and written directions.
Must be computer literate and able to communicate, submit and distribute information by such means.
