The University of Nebraska Medical Center, Department of Pharmacology and Experimental Neuroscience has an immediate opening for a highly motivated postdoctoral research associate to join a developing molecular biology group for delivery of CRISPR Therapeutics towards HIV elimination. The research seeks to merge revolutionary CRISPR-Cas9 technology with state-of-the-art nanoformulation technologies for targeted excision of integrated proviral DNA. Knowledge in recombinant DNA technologies, gene delivery, and mRNA CRISPR/Cas9 is required. Experience in HIV-1 biology and disease pathogenesis is helpful but not mandatory. To accelerate established efforts, team requires the candidate to partner with on-site scientists with virological, animal model and theranostic expertise. The program was the first the eliminate HIV-1 from a live animal and seeks to extend prior successes with improved gene recognition, delivery and exclusion of off-target toxicities. The overarching goal is HIV cure with a focus on CRISPR based gene editing of virus, viral receptors and required transcriptional factors.  Ph.D. in molecular or cell biology, immunology or related field is required.

Candidate should have basic understanding of CRISPR Cas9 based gene editing (knock out knock in). Prior expertise in lentiviral/CRISPR vector design is preferred.  Providing oversight and troubleshooting in basic and applied molecular biology is required that include, but not limited to, DNA/RNA extraction, restriction digestion, PCR, RT-qPCR, virus production, viral titration, transformation, transfection and transduction. The ability to work independently and cooperatively is essential. Candidates must have good writing and communication skills. Ample opportunities for career development, grant writing and faculty appointments possible.
