Postdoctoral Position at the Department of Biochemistry and Redox Biology Center

University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Lincoln NE, USA

A postdoctoral research associate position with competitive salary and benefits is available in Dr. Limei Zhang’s group for highly motivated candidates who are interested in redox biology, infectious disease and/or structural biology. The Zhang Group applies a suite of interdisciplinary tools to investigate the structure-mechanism relationships of metalloproteins in redox reaction, stress response and antibiotic resistance, with the support of two major federal grants. For more information about the Zhang Group, please visit the website: https://biochem.unl.edu/limei-zhang.

We seek a postdoc to investigate the roles and underlying mechanisms of bioactive molecules in metallocluster homeostasis and stress response. The duties of the postdoctoral fellow include independently designing and conducting high-quality research experiments for the assigned project under the supervisor’s guidance; analyzing data and drafting manuscripts for publication; taking roles in lab maintenance with other group members; and assisting the supervisor to mentor undergraduate and graduate students.

The required qualifications include a recent Ph.D. degree (or expected soon) in biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology or a related field and a strong record in conducting high-quality research. Completion of Ph.D. is required prior to start of work. The successful candidate is also expected to have good communication skills, work cooperatively on multidisciplinary projects, and have mentoring experience. Expertise in advanced molecular biology and microbiology, protein biochemistry and analytic biochemistry is preferred. Experience in transcriptional regulation or extraction of bioactive molecules is highly appreciated.

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is located in a vibrant and safe city offering outstanding and affordable quality of life, and numerous multicultural and entertainment benefits. The Redox Biology Center is organized as a broad-based interdisciplinary and multi-institutional entity involving researchers from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, and offers a supportive and collaborative international environment as well as access to cutting edge proteomics, metabolomics, crystallography, and NMR facilities.

Recognizing that diversity within a context of inclusivity enhances creativity, innovation, impact, and a sense of belonging, the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources (IANR) and the Department of Biochemistry are committed to creating learning, research, Extension programming, and work environments that are inclusive of all forms of human diversity. We actively encourage applications from and nominations of individuals from underrepresented groups.

Review of applications will begin August 16, 2021 and will continue until the position is filled or the search is closed. To apply, go to https://employment.unl.edu, requisition F_210032. Applicants will be required to attach a letter of interest with a short summary of past research experience, a curriculum vitae, and contact information for three professional references, including phone numbers and emails.
