Junior Professor (pay grade: W 1) of Metals & Alloys II with Tenure Track to W 3

(minimum salary per month: 4,912 euros). This is a fixed-term civil service position.

We are looking for an early-career scholar with the ability to work independently and a high potential for development. We are looking for an engineering-scientific scholar with a distinctive research profile and sound knowledge of at least one of the following areas:

  • Analysis of the microstructure of metallic materials
  • Casting technologies for metallic materials, e.g. investment casting
  • Light metals, e.g. magnesium, aluminium, titanium
  • Modelling and simulation of metallic materials
  • Thermo-mechanical testing of metallic materials
  • Additive manufacturing and joining of metallic materials
  • Alloy development

Applicants should have a very good scientific track record in research with relevant publications in national and international journals and should have experience in acquiring third-party funding. A dedicated attitude should be evident in his or her academic teaching. Experience in interdisciplinary teaching and research and in the independent supervision of scientific work is welcome, as is international networking.

Cooperation with existing research groups in the Faculty of Engineering Science and involvement in cross-faculty focus areas (Advanced Materials, Energy Research & Energy Technology, and others) as well as cooperation with non-university institutions (Neue Materialien Bayreuth GmbH and others) are expected. Proposals for this are expressly welcome.

In teaching, the future junior professorship will strengthen in particular the bachelor’s and master’s programmes in Materials Science & Engineering as well as vocational training in Metals Engineering. Special modules can also be developed for the master’s programmes in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Technology, Automotive Components Engineering, and others. Experience in the area of knowledge transfer (third mission) would be desirable. The ability and willingness to teach courses in German and English is a prerequisite.

The requirements for hiring professors at universities in the State of Bavaria apply. The appointment will initially be for a period of three years as a fixed-term civil servant. In the course of the third year, the junior professorship will be extended by up to three additional years with the consent of the junior professor if he or she has proven successful as a university lecturer.
