POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW

PROTEIN ENGINEERING/DIRECTED EVOLUTION/YEAST DISPLAY

DEPARTMENT OF BIOCHEMISTRY

EMORY UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MEDICINE

Applicants are sought for a funded postdoctoral fellowship position to work on interdisciplinary projects investigating the molecular mechanisms of infectious diseases and cancer with a focus on novel protein-based therapeutic development in the laboratory of Dr. Eric J. Sundberg, Professor and Chair of the Department of Biochemistry at the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia (www.biochem.emory.edu).

Working at the intersection of biochemistry, glycobiology and infectious disease research, the Sundberg laboratory focuses on the structural, energetic and functional dissection of molecular mechanisms of infection, immunity and cancer, as well as the development of protein-based therapeutics. We leverage our longstanding expertise in structural biology to define molecular recognition events in order to rationalize the development of novel therapeutics. In addition, we develop new methods for the directed evolution of carbohydrate-active enzymes and glycoproteins.

The successful applicant will advance protein engineering projects in the Sundberg laboratory. Accordingly, demonstrated capabilities and a publication track record in protein engineering by directed evolution methods, especially using yeast display, are requirements for the position. The ability to work in a collaborative research group is also critically important, and excellent written and oral communication skills are a must. The ability and/or desire to integrate structural biology and molecular biophysics methods into one’s research projects is valued. Minimum qualifications include a PhD or equivalent terminal degree.

Applicants must apply online to be considered at https://faculty-emory.icims.com/jobs/73394/job. Applications should consist of: (1) a curriculum vitae; (2) a statement of research interests, capabilities and experience related to protein engineering, directed evolution and yeast display, not to exceed two pages; and (3) the names and contact information of three references. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Expected start date for the position is as early as September 1, 2021.
