Position Summary

A position is open for a highly motivated Assistant Research Professor with a record of research achievements and significant publications in the field of translational oncology, preferably chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell immunotherapy and/or immuno-oncology. The person filling this position will lead a research team furthering the development and optimization of a novel CAR T cell therapy (Wang et al., Sci Trans Med, 2020; PMID 32132216), and will utilize multiple molecular, cellular, imaging techniques and model systems to better understand the fundamental biology underlying this CAR T cell immunotherapy, extending this therapy to other brain tumors and solid tumors, and optimizing new CARs incorporating this technology.

The ideal candidate will have experience in CAR T cell therapy or other immunotherapies, and/or cancer biology specifically related to brain tumors and other solid tumors. As the team leader, this person will also be expected to interact and collaborate with a large group of researchers focused on developing T cell therapies in a translational research environment across multiple malignancy types. Key Responsibilities include:
  • Effectively lead a research team and collaborate with a diverse group of scientists involved in immunotherapy.
  • Develop, optimize and characterize this and other novel CAR T cell designs for brain tumors and other solid tumors.
  • Conduct animal studies to evaluate CAR T cell therapy approaches in multiple mouse models of cancer.
  • Conduct high-dimensional analyses of primary tissues, including multiparameter flow cytometry, multiplexed immunohistochemistry, gene expression profiling, and immunohistochemistry.
  • Develop approaches to interrogate correlative samples across multiple CAR T cell clinical trials.
  • Prepare manuscripts and/or grant proposals is preferred, along with a publication record in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Mentor graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and other more junior scientists.

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:
  • Doctoral-level degree (PhD, MD, or similar) and at least 2-3 years research experience in the fields of immunology, immunotherapy, and/or cancer/brain tumor biology.

Preferred education experience and skills:
  • Experience in cancer immunotherapy, cell-based assays and animal models, and high-dimensional immunochemical analyses and gene expression profiling, is highly preferred.
  • Experience in writing manuscripts and/or preparing grant proposals is preferred.
