SUMMARY

The primary purpose of the Research Assistant II (RA II) position is to provide technical and organizational support for an innovative multidisciplinary research program. Specifically, through designing and implementing a variety of laboratory protocols and experiments, the RA II will contribute to studies related to studying phenotypic plasticity in the tumor microenvironment and its role on drug resistance in various cancer types using single-cell technologies and cancer systems approaches.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Research Design & Support Responsible for executing various experiments with cancer cell lines, spheroids and organoids. Prepare sterile media and solutions, maintain tumor lines and optimize drug treatments. Experience with flow cytometry and/or CyTOF experiments, immunofluorescence imaging and immunohistochemistry (IHC) is desirable. Perform and optimize conjugation and titration of antibodies for CyTOF and the CODEX multiplexed imaging platform; perform the IHC staining for the CODEX optimizing steps. Evaluate and interpret experimental results. Interact with various MD Anderson Cores (e.g. Flow Cytometry and Cellular Imaging Core Facility (FCCICF), Advanced Technology Genomics Core (ATGC)) as needed. Keep detailed records of experimental data and protocols. Organizes and performs routine procedures. Participates in lab meetings and presents data when necessary.

Laboratory Organization Implement safety procedures by laboratory SOPs: Demonstrates and practices lab safety precautions. Comply with all institutional safety policies including Universal Precautions and OSHA standards when handling toxic, hazardous, flammable, or potentially infectious or carcinogenic materials. Maintain great communication with fellow lab members, colleagues, and collaborators. Remain up to date on relevant training in new protocols and technology. Assist in developing and revising protocols, procedures, and techniques. Assess availability of supplies and advise/recommend purchasing as needed. Be in charge of ordering, restocking and inventorying supplies.

Technical Assistance Apply scientific background to the application of laboratory techniques, using judgment, analysis and evaluation. Read literature and maintain detailed and well organized records of protocols. Proactively communicate results to direct supervisor and others. Assist in developing new and novel procedures for carrying out assigned research by reading literature and conferring with peers and superiors and then implementing these new procedures. Recordkeeping and data collection required on all experimental protocols performed. Prepares slides, graphs and tables via photography, computer or manually. Communicate results to the principal investigator and share in group presentations of these data as well as promote ongoing projects in the laboratory. Assist with compilation of data for presentation or publication.

Other Duties as Assigned

Required Degree :Bachelor's degree with major course works in one of the basic sciences.

Preferred Degree: Master's Level Degree

Required Experience: Two years experience in scientific or experimental research work. No experience required with preferred degree.
