The Department of Microbiology and Immunology in the Carver College of Medicine at The University of Iowa invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position in Microbial Immunology at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. This tenure-track or tenured position includes a 12-month appointment, fringe benefits, competitive start-up package, ample office/laboratory space and access to state-of-the-art core facilities, instrumentation, BSL3 and ABSL3 space. The primary appointment of the faculty member will be in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. Successful applicants will be expected to establish and maintain an extramurally-funded research program and to actively participate in teaching and service missions within the Department and the Carver College of Medicine.

All applicants must have either a PhD, MD, MD/PhD, or DVM/PhD, postdoctoral research experience in immunology, and a strong record of research accomplishments that include publications in high-quality journals. Applicants at the Associate Professor level must have an established and funded research program and demonstrate the ability to mentor and teach PhD graduate students. All areas of Immunology will be considered. We are particularly interested in applicants using cutting-edge approaches to study Microbial Immunology with an emphasis on the mechanisms of innate and adaptive immune responses to microbial pathogens, host-pathogen interactions, translational and novel approaches to treatment of immune disorders related to microbial infections.

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology consists of 21 primary and 6 secondary faculty members with strengths in molecular mechanisms of bacterial, viral, and parasitic physiology and pathogenesis, immune responses to medically important pathogens and cellular biology.
